Peter & Danielle | Married

Thursday, June 23rd, 2011

Peter & Danielle…what do I say about them…I have so much to say that I don’t know where to start! These 2 are an awesome couple. They are a photographer’s dream – relaxed, fun & good looking. When we did their e-session in the fall I knew their wedding was going to be an amazing day & I couldn’t wait to photograph them again.

The big day was spectacular!! All the details that went into the wedding were so beautiful & well thought out. The day went by so fast for us – I couldn’t believe it when it was over – I didn’t want to leave ;)

The Ceremony was done at a small church in the Queensborough area. This church is beautiful on the inside, although I’m pretty sure it has the shortest aisle known to man – 5 steps and the bride was at the altar! I did notice that Father David was a bit of a talker & Peter wanted to get on with the day as he kept looking back to check the clock :P

The rest of the afternoon was ours to do what we wanted with! We ventured around the area on foot for awhile. The guys continued with their jokes & pranks on each other & kept everyone else laughing & cringing all at the same time. We went on a hop-on hop-off tour on the way to the reception as well. We got honked at & whistled lots while we were stopped onthe side of the road & at first I thought they were just strangers say “congratulations”, turns out they were all late comers to the reception. Bet they didn’t think they’d get caught!

The reception, one word “WOW”. Danielle & Peter, you guys know how to put on a party lol. So, you know how the bride & groom enter a reception to music & cheering and they just walk in to the room? Well these 2 didn’t want any part of that! How did they enter? To the  Rocky theme song dancing & Danielle was wearing her boxing gloves – so awesome lol. The reception was full of fun surprises from the way they decided which table got to eat next to the surprise father/daughter jig in the middle of their dance. It was obvious that not only do Danielle & Peter like to have fun & be goofy but so do their family & all their friends! Some of the moves we saw out on the dance floor at the beginning of the night were off the hook ;)

We had so much fun capturing their special day & all the surprised they threw out to their guests! And a big thanks to my second photographer/light stand Michael Wachniak!

Danielle & Peter – Thank you again for having us along for the ride! You’re both such special people & I hope you continue to cherish each other’s company for the rest of your lives. Oh & I hope you are enjoying the sun in Tahiti b/c we’re all freezing our tootsies off back home!

Champagne & Firetrucks | Bowen Island Wedding Photography

Tuesday, May 31st, 2011

I was ultra excited for this wedding because it was new territory for me! My creative juices were on location overload.

We started the morning early in order to catch the ferry over to Bowen but it was a nice & relaxing 20 minute ride before a very busy 12 hour day.

We all started out at the wedding location where the guys were left to complete the decorating and much to everyone’s surprise, they did a wonderful job! I wonder if they secretly paid someone to do it while they supervised & took all the credit ;) lol

While all the ladies were doing the final touches to their looks, the bride’s ride pulled up. It’s mint condition vintage Plymouth & it was red!!! I was in heaven. I love vintage cars & I love red….need I say more?!

The ceremony was short & sweet. Carolyn & Dustin had already been married for a few months as they did the courthouse legal papers back in late 2010. This was their time to celebrate & party with their closest friends & family. Carolyn was surprised by some of her long time friends from Alberta who didn’t think they’d make it to the wedding!

After the ceremony we all jumped into the trucks and basically toured around Bowen Island for the portrait session :) We seriously could have stayed out for hours upon hours with this group of people! They were hilarious, outgoing and so friendly – my kind of crowd. The location didn’t hurt either…seriously, this place is awesome! I really hope I get to photograph on Bowen Island again & again. It reminded me a lot of my home town (Prince Rupert), everyone knows everyone.

The reception was well underway by the time we returned & so it was time to jump right into the celebrating part of the day! There were some very emotional & loving speeches given and Carolyn’s parents sang their speech. The dance floor was a popular location for many. The bar tenders were exuberant & hilarious (I think maybe they had a few drinks for themselves ;) )

It was such a wonderful day & we ended it with a bang..no seriously. We ended the evening with a display of fireworks!

Dustin & Carolyn – may your lives continue to be so enriched with such amazing & loving people. Carolyn, you were a bombshell bride & Dustin you’re a lucky guy. Cheers to many years of happiness!

Jesse + Jolene = Love

Friday, May 20th, 2011

Jesse & Jolene share a special bond. You can see it in their eyes when they look at each other, each kiss, each touch. It’s truely amazing. They share so much love with one an other.

They were married at the Burnaby Lake Rowing Club. Beautiful location hide amongst all the city life! The day was absolutely perfect as well.

I met the ladies early in the day and got to get to know everyone while they all got ready for the long awaited wedding day. Jolene’s family & friends are such loving & caring people. We all shared some laughs that morning thanks to her hilarious Dad. That man made me smile throughout the day. You can tell he was so incredibly  happy for his daughter and I do believe he almost shed a tear during his speech – so cute!

The day was an amazing one & all put together with the help of Daniela & Coco of  Perfect Events.

Jesse & Jolene  - I wish the best of luck in your new life together. You have been through so much together and I hope that your bonds continue to strengthen.  Thank you for allowing us to capture your special day!

Sweet & Romantic | Vancouver Wedding Photographer

Wednesday, March 23rd, 2011

This past Sunday I had the pleasure of spending a few hours with a very kind, loving family as two very important people in their lives got married.

Laurie & Dean are loving, caring, kind individuals. When they became husband and wife they agreed to continue to love and care for each other no matter the circumstances. They also have 7 beautiful children, all are unique & strong individuals just like their parents. They promised their children to continue to be there for them and to continue to develop their relationships with each of them.

This family has an amazing bond as a whole unit but the smaller bonds within are just as amazing and loving.

The ceremony was very small, only their children and a few witnesses, but so beautiful! They held the ceremony at the historic Milner Chapel in Langley – I couldn’t have thought of a more suitable location for this special ceremony!

After the ceremony we did some classical, romantic photographs of Laurie & Dean on the Milner property.

Although I only spent a small portion of the day with this family, I was able to see how much love they all  have for each other. I feel truly honored to have been able to capture these very special moments for Laurie & Dean and their family.

As a way of celebrating their wedding, the entire family took the limo into Vancouver to dine at the Pan Pacific.

Laurie & Dean – I hope this special day was everything you hoped for and I’m a very happy to have shared it with you.

Enjoy your sneak peek!

Engagement Fusion Photography

Sunday, March 20th, 2011

Spring is officially here!
Every year spring means engagement sessions for all my couples. We go out to our favorite locations and have a ball shooting some fun, quirky, romantic, edgy and classic images of each couple leading up to their wedding.

This year will be no different. I love doing these sessions because it gives me a good opportunity to really get to know my clients and to make them feel comfortable being photographed.

I’ve had a new element to all my photography this year – bits of videography. It’s better known as fusion photography. Where I pair still photographs with small clips of video to create a whole new experience for my clients.

I got a bit of a head start to the sessions this year with one of my August couples. We set out in mid February to tackle Grouse Mountain for their engagement session.

I took this session as a perfect opportunity to showcase my fusion photography while we were out on the ice rink!

See for yourself in this short video I’ve made for the couple.

The first wedding of 2011! I was so excited for this wedding for so many reasons – the 1st of the year, the snow, the location, the gorgeous couple…I think you get the idea ;)

The wedding was in Fort Langley at the Community Hall – I love this hall!

Derek & Sherisse had the day perfectly planned. Sherisse was so organized, you’d think she was a wedding planner.

They went with a very dramatic scheme but threw in a cute & cuddle factor too. They did everything in red and black and added cat (yes, as in meow meow) accents where they could. They pulled off 2 additional plans that were, in my opinion, completely awesome – personalized table names & wine labels with a throwback to their childhood’s. The table names were genius & hilarious with well thought out jokes & nicknames with their family & friends. The wine labels…oh the wine labels…so hilarious with different photographs of them as kids in the 80′s – mushroom cuts & spandex included!

The ladies got ready with the team from Wedded Bliss while I zoomed around the house capturing the details involved. Wedded Bliss is a vendor I’ve had the pleasure of working with a few times and the results are ALWAYS amazing – I can’t recommend them enough!

The gentlemen arrived at the house before the ceremony for Derek & Sherisse’s first look. The first thing I noticed on the guys – monogrammed ties! I asked Derek where he got them, his response was “Google ‘ties that don’t suck’ you’ll find them” LOL! Try it – do it now…see, he was right! Ha! Anyways, the ties were done by Cyberoptix TieLab.

By the time we let Derek & Sherisse spend some quality quiet time together for the First Look, the snow had started! Armed with big coats & umbrellas, we went next door to the most breath taking driveway ever and had some fun. This driveway was ridiculously long & perfectly lined with trees – loved it.

We also ventured to a few spots in Fort Langley before deciding it was far too cold to be out any longer! With our fingers frozen and our noses red, we made our way back to the Fort Langley Hall for the Ceremony.

The ceremony & reception were both beautiful with so many highlights! The MC, Aaron, was a natural and had the whole room laughing. The song list for the evening was well thought out & original – no “I Got A Feeling” at this wedding. The couple were so relaxed and were really enjoying the evening with all their guests. I could keep going forever, the day was that amazing!

The day was absolutely incredible. We had perfect weather (even though it was a tad chilly, the snow more than made up for it), an amazing crew of vendors involved and the family, friends and guests of Derek and Sherisse were fabulous!

Derek & Sherisse; I hope you had an absolutely perfect day and thoroughly enjoyed your honeymoon in Jamaica. You (and your Bridal Party) were are true pleasure to photograph. We are very honored to have shared this special day with you!

Now it’s time for the goods – photograph galore ;) Enjoy!!

A special thanks goes out to my always reliable & trusty associate photographer, Darko Sikman. You did a great job – as usual!

Rock Ceremony

Thursday, January 13th, 2011

The other day I was perusing some Wedding sites & blogs that I frequent and I came across a fantastic idea – well I think it’s fantastic!

It’s a twist on an already popular event. I’m sure most people are familiar with a sand ceremony being performed during a wedding ceremony, am I right?

If not, its purpose is to symbolize 2 peoples lives coming together into one but still remaining as individuals. Each person, simultaneously, pours their sand into a larger vase , where their 2 different colored sands mix together but are still identifiable.

So this new fantastic idea is called a Rock ceremony!

Here’s how it works;

At the beginning of the ceremony, every guest will get a smooth, polished, river rock and a pen. As the ceremony starts, the officiant will say something along these lines:

“Before you met, your lives were on different paths with different destinations. But love has brought you together and joined these separate paths into one. Each one of your friends and family here today have been given a small, polished stone that represents their unique individuality and their presence at your wedding today. You also each have a stone of your own that symbolizes your previous separate lives, separate sets of friends, separate families, and the different life’s journeys you once traveled. I will now ask that everyone please take out the stone you have been given and pause to make a wish or blessing for happiness and good will for the couple for the future of their marriage.”

Then the officiant will ask the guests to write a short sentiment on one side, and sign their name on the other with the pen they are given.  They are all collected, and then displayed in a glass vase after the wedding.

Isn’t that the greatest thing you’ve ever heard?? And wouldn’t it just look so neat in your home!

A Year In Review | Vancouver Wedding Photographer

Wednesday, December 22nd, 2010

I still cannot believe that 2010 is coming to a close!

This past year has been a highlight of my business thus far. I was so delighted to work at each and every wedding I covered this year – they were all so unique! The weddings were plentiful and exciting but I can’t forget about all the other clients from maternity & newborns to risky boudoir & engagements shoots – it was a blast to get to know my clients a little more & develop relationships with them.

Some wedding highlights for me are; Shark Fin soup & Jellyfish (really tasty!), largest wedding party yet (5 bridesmaids & 5 groomsmen), Fraser River Fishing Lodge (amazing!), supped up/tricked out Golf Cart, riding the elevator up & down 4 times to get wicked photographs with the most awesome bridal party ever…the list could go on!

Business this past year doubled the business I had last year – this is so exciting as a fairly new business in the industry. I cannot wait to see how 2011 & future years pan out.

2011 is already shaping up to be a spectacular year. The weddings that are booked to date are going to be just as awesome as this past year – I can’t wait to photograph these & share with everyone!

I’ll be taking the next few months off of shooting any sessions to work on the website & updating the portfolios as well as adding a secondary site for my Boudoir work. Although the posts will be less frequent than they have been you’ll be able to see updates on Facebook – look me up!

One last post before the New Year will be the TOP 10 of 2010 – my all time 10 favorite photographs of 2010 and possibly more…so STAY TUNED!

Butterflies, Beauty & the Beast

Sunday, October 17th, 2010

My brain is swirling with all the little details & happenings of this past weekend’s wedding! I have so many details I want to touch on but don’t know where to start, so I’ll simply start at the beginning…

Once upon a time, in a faraway land, a young prince lived in a shining castle. And although his castle didn’t have a Cogsworth, Lumiere or Mrs. Potts, he was still her Prince Charming. He swept her off her feet, they courted, they danced, they fell in love & they were wed!

October Ninth Two-Thousand and Ten, I woke to scattered blue skies & overcast and thought to myself “perfect weather for today’s wedding.”

It was a beautiful wedding – full of color, surprises & so much love! Oh and a few jokes along the way as well.

I drove out to Chilliwack to meet up with the beautiful bride, Sarah, and her 5 bridesmaids. The house was bustling with excitement – hair was being done, makeup was being applied and the tunes were on when I arrived.

The gentlemen waited patiently for us at the hall while the ladies did some last minute touch ups.

The ceremony was fantastic – there were tears and laughter. Oh and did anyone else remember that time when the groom’s ring was forgotten in the car in the purse?? Hehe So we had a minor hiccup but nothing a quick bridesmaid couldn’t rectify by running out to the car and getting the ring. Everyone waited patiently, giggled some and when she came back in the room all eyes were on her. “Did she find it?” “Does she have it?” was whispered by a few and yes she saved the day!

We all piled into our vehicles, family included, and drove up the road to the Matron of Honor’s In-Law’s home. They so graciously allowed us all to take over their property for the portrait session. They have a gorgeously landscaped property! Thank you so so so much to them for allowing us to take it over – can’t thank you enough!

It was now raining cats and dogs (I don’t understand that expression but it’s cute…) so we found refuge at the Chilliwack museum.  The bridal party and I, no wait – 2 of the groomsmen went MIA. ;) Now where was I…oh right we all spent the better part of an hour at the museum sheltered from the insane rain. We all shared in some jokes, some a little more PG rated than others.

We made it back to the reception safe and sound, just a little cold and wet. The party started at the reception and we all learnt to never give the groom, Byron, a microphone again. ;) Just kidding Byron!

Some of the surprises of the day were the 9 live monarch butterflies we used for the portraits, the Mad Hatter cake with the Beauty and the Beast cake topper and the choreographed dance of Mr. & Mrs. Bidiuk.

The best-man’s mother raises & breeds butterflies – very cool! She brought along 9 big beautiful Monarch Butterflies for us to use in some of the portraits. We placed them all over the bride & groom for some fun shots. My favorite was the “butterfly kisses”, you place the butterfly on your nose. The butterflies were quite still, as they had been cooled before the wedding. By cooling them down it puts them to sleep, once we started using them they would warm up. One managed to flutter away but Dallan was able to chase it down (hilarious!) and bring it back to us.

The cake…what can I say about the cake…one word – WOW! The cake was made by a friend, who is a trained pastry chef but doesn’t do it as a career. She made a Mad Hatter style cake, decorated it with very colorful patterns on each layer and topped it off with a Beauty & the Beast topper. Everyone was mesmerized by the cake, myself included. Don’t tell anyone, but it also tasted FABULOUS! Shhhh!

Sarah & Byron’s first dance was very romantic, saucy and sexy – yes all three can co-exist nicely :) They both love to dance and they did a perfect performance for all their guests.

To Sarah & Byron, thank you so much for allowing me to capture this special day for you! Can’t wait to work with you again when there are little Bidiuks on the way! Enjoy the photographs!!

Fall Brings Orange Leaves | Langley Wedding Photographer

Friday, October 1st, 2010

November 22nd, 2009 I met with a very cool & creative couple about their upcoming wedding the following summer.  We booked their special day & we were all so excited to be working together! Fast forward to their engagement session on July 3rd – we rocked the session with goofy poses & faces. The pictures were fabulous & I had made new friends, even though I stepped on a poor, unsuspecting snail!

For months leading up to the wedding Jaclyn & I were in constant contact as she is a VERY organized person, turns out she’s an event coordinator – explains everything! Hehe.

The day of the wedding was upon us and I arrived at the ladies’ prep location inspired & excited for this particular wedding! Why? Because the couple are so organized & detail oriented that I knew there were going be lots of awesome little details to shoot that day! (I ♥ details) I was so right – the details were impressive, not only were they well thought out but they were thoughtful & meaningful to the couple!

The ladies all were so beautiful, especially the glowing bride! The cutest little girls arrived and transformed into even cuter flower girls. They’re dresses were adorable and had an amazing detail added – orange butterflies!!!  All the ladies (& girls) wore orange & silver handmade jewelry. Who made it? The fabulously talented Bride J

With everybody looking gorgeous, we hopped in our cars & traveled as a convoy to Barkley Brook Gardens.  Jaclyn took some time during the ride to reflect on how much this day meant to her & to remember those who were unable to be present on this special day.

The excitement was growing as the ceremony grew closer & the ladies tried to sneak a peek at the gentlemen as they got into position!

The groom & his men looked so well put together in their suits. The orange vests & ties made a statement & popped with the black jackets.  They’re well thought out details – the corsage, the tie pin & their cuff links – were amazing.

During the ceremony Chad was nervous, I could tell because he kept making jokes & silly faces at the camera!  My favorite part was when he stated they were going to have 8 children! The look on Jaclyn’s face was priceless.  With all the jokes aside, the ceremony was very touching & thoughtful. We honored those not present with a moment of silence & the officiant gave the couple her own blessing, which was perfectly suited for them.  With a quick fist pump & a kiss the new Mr. & Mrs. VanDenBerg walked down the aisle together!

While the guests mingled & caught with family and friends they hadn’t seen in ages, we ventured around Barkley Brook with the Bridal Party and had some fun!  We re-used some props from the Engagement session & Jaclyn brought along some new ones as well. My favorites were the parasols, although the heart sunglasses were up there too.

The party continued at the reception with some fun games from the DJs and a surprise dance from the Groom. Did anyone know he was doing this?! The bride was shocked & confused as to what he was doing. Turns out it was a dance for the bridesmaids…we think! Chad continued the jokes into the garder toss. He hid a bag of jokes under the brides chair – a ball & chain, soccer ball & rubber chicken – all of which he threw at the unsuspecting single men behind him.

The reception was a roller coaster of emotions for everybody. Chad brought on the laughter, the slideshow brought back memories & tears, and the first dance brought on love.

This was a great celebration and I am so happy to have shared it with such amazing people.  Jaclyn & Chad – your love is endless and it shows. I wish you both a lifetime full of happiness. Can’t wait to photograph you again soon!

Enjoy your photographs (there’s a lot!).
